Street Advertising Project

I always believe in what I do. If I have a vision I stick to it.

For this project, I decided to create a series of street advertisements for the brand I want to create, “Ama Rever”. I was heavily inspired by posters, wheat pasting, and street art in New York, so I wanted to create something that could reflect that culture. I want my brand to reflect the characteristics of the youth culture, so going out and pasting them all around New York reflected that perfectly.

To create the posters and stickers I had to improve my Photoshop and Illustrator skills. I already had some prior knowledge of such programs, but it was the basics, meaning that this project was a lot of learning for me. This learning experience consisted of me being self-taught, as well as just experimenting with what I felt looked right and what didn’t.

Once I created two different posters, along with the basic logo one, and the sticker design, I set out to get them made. Once I received them, I researched how to make wheat paste, as that would be the way that I would post all of these up. It was interesting when I researched wheat pasting because that in itself is a community, as people that do it feel very connected as it falls into the category of “guerrilla art”. This strong sense of community was something that I envisioned for my brand to become one day.

Once I had everything set up, I went out at night and went through many different parts of New York to glue them up. Most of them, however, would end up torn down the next day, which was to be expected. Nevertheless, there were instances where the posters would stay put up for much longer. One of my favorite results was that one of the sets of posters had still stayed up for a week, and people had come around and spray painted that same wall, but rather than spray paint on top of the posters, they spray painted around, respecting the space and message from the poster. This made me feel respect for street art, as it’s all about leaving your mark, yet never tearing someone else’s work down for your benefit.
