Footwear Renderings

Once I learn and continue to perfect the basics, the next step is finding ways to take my work to the next level. I'm never satisfied with my work unless I think it's as perfect as I can get it, so for that reason I'm always looking for new things to learn that I can apply to my work.

This project is a continuation of the weekly sketches project I undertook. Whereas in the weekly sketches, I looked to improve my footwear sketching skills, in this project I looked to take my skills further and practice rendering such sketches to make them look more realistic. This meant choosing the colors as well as adding shadows and material textures to the sketches.

Process

To create the renderings, I started by taking the scanned images of my sketches and putting them in Photoshop. Here I picked out a color scheme I felt most appropriate to each design, and applied it by creating paths and different layers. From there I created several layers of shadows and highlights to give the render a more realistic feel. Once that was done, I added textures to the render to give a more realistic idea of how the shoe should look.
